Peter B was at the helm today, I just needed to not be at the front of the room. Thank you everyone for your strength and encouragement. We are taking it one day at a time.
We had a whole assortment of guests and speakers as we welcomed the Chilliwack Club-Welcome Ken, Delphine, Bob and Chris to our new location and the team from Chilliwack Community Services- Diane, Shirley and Julie.

Picture
Chilliwack Community Services visited today to receive a cheque from us, but to also provide an update about what is going on with all the programs that they run here in the community. The ladies provided a fabulous run down of all their programs:
  • Early Years program
    • Including Early Gateway @ Central
  • Youth Services
  • Family Services
Chilliwack Community Services is also looking at low-income housing for youth who are transitioning out of foster care.
Also impressive is the reality that to date at CCS, 92% of money goes to programs and direct support, only 8% goes to admin costs. For such a diverse organization that is truly impressive.
At the next Board Meeting we should brainstorm if we can support any of these programs further!
As for club updates, do not forget:
  • May 1 - Club Elections for the new Board for the 2018/ 2019 year
  • May 1 - Board Meeting at the Chilliwack Public Library
  • May 2 - Knock and Walk - Pete S for all the details
  • May 2 - McDonalds Day
  • May 12 - Run for Mom
  • May 12 - Chilliwack Kiwanis Birthday Dinner @ the Capital 5:30 doors open, Dinner at 6pm, $26pp
  • May 24 - Key Club Tea at Sardis Secondary in the Pit at 3:30.
  • Thank you to all those involved with scholarships, your dedication is appreciated.
  • Thank you to all those who keep Super Reader running smoothly at all our schools.
  • Thank you to all those who attended the Bahath fundraiser.
For the good of Kiwanis, we celebrated with Happy Bucks and a few good laughs, keep being amazing everyone, see you next week,

Michelle

As guests today we had the Chilliwack Sea Cadets. They presented their program to us, and talked about how critical it is that organizations and institutions change to evolve with the current times. The Sea Cadets promote active service, commitment and loyalty. The Sea Cadets are also actively fundraising to help build up their reserves to continue to provide on water training opportunities and certifications. If you are interested in attending their fundraiser on May 26 at 11:30 at the Chilliwack Landing Centre.
We finished with a fantastic round of Happy Bucks.
For the good of Kiwanis, make it a great week.

Welcome to our new digs!

After weeks of discussions and research...

The Sardis Kiwanis Club is excited to announce we have changed locations for breakfast. We are now meeting every Tuesday morning at 7am at the IHOP on 45466 Yale Road.
Today we were very fortunate to welcome Barb from the Chilliwack Youth Health Centre (CYHC) and members of the executive from the Sardis Secondary Key Club.
The CYHC's vision is to: To create a space that provides integrated health and wellness services to youth and young adults (ages 12-26) on a drop in basis in a safe and supportive environment. They offer a diverse number of programs to support the full range of youth health issues. These include but are not limited to life planning, mental health awareness, counseling, substance abuse and many other concerns youth may have in the lives. Barb outlined how our previous support has allowed them to offer more times, more sessions and more awareness so the youth of Chilliwack have a safe place to go. To check out a full outline of their programs and offerings check out there website here (http://chilliwackyhc.com/). We were also invited to their annual fundraising gala on April 18 at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre. Please contact their office if you are interested in attending.

Our second visitors of the morning were a stellar group of Sardis Secondary students, fresh in with some updates from their fundraising efforts on the weekend, and an overall update about their club.

The club at Sardis are working on school culture events, organizing a team for the Inside Ride at WJ Mouat and organizing a thank you party for May. We also learned their fundraiser of bagging groceries on Saturday earned more than $2400 for KCCP and their programs. An amazing accomplishment! Check out our Facebook page for a few photos from the day.

It's pretty easy to get excited about the future when we see what our youth of today are accomplishing! Thank you to our Key Clubs for continuing all the amazing work of the Kiwanis family.
Other club updates from today include:
  • Thank you to the House committee for all their work on changing locations.
  • Plowing Match for April 14 has been POSTPONED due to the condition of the fields, stay tuned for the re-scheduled date.
  • Bahath fundraiser in on April 17, we have two tables attending
  • Inside Ride at WJ Mouat is on April 18 @1pm, carpools are being organized
  • Soup Kitchen needs help 8:30-10:30 on Saturday April 14, contact Sheila if you are available.
  • Scholarships are done, and students have been selected for another year. Thank you to our members who are attending grad ceremonies to hand these out. Also thank you to all those members that sat on the committee this year to select our recipients.
  • Do not forget Club Elections are on May 1, 2018
  • Still a few seats available for Food Safe certification on May 20, contact Doug H as soon as possible if you are interested.
  • Walk and Knock, for the Food Bank is May 2, 5:30-8, mark it in your calendars.
  • McDonald's Day is also May 2, 9am to 7pm.
We finished the morning with Happy Bucks and a few great laughs! As always, if there is anything else, just send me an email, drop me a phone call or text me and I will get it added to our agenda.

Thank you for all you do!
Yours in Service,
Michelle

"I alone cannot change the world, but I cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples."
~Mother Theresa
After a social media experiment, our weekly post updates will be resuming!
We sure did miss updating you all, we will get old posts up soon too!
We hope everyone had a wonderful and peaceful Easter break. If you have kids in school, we hope Spring Break was adventurous and memorable!
Today's program we welcomed Lena and Stephanie from the Chilliwack Museum Classroom program. Last year, when Matthew Francis came to our club to promote the museum, we were all in to help get students there. We donated $500 to help the museum- help schools with transportation costs so all students had the opportunity to be introduced to the history of Chilliwack.
Needless to say we learned the program was a huge success, and many schools were able to attend with the little extra help we provide. This year the museum has expanded their school orientated programing to include the "Classroom in Residence" program (Click here for the story from the Chilliwack Museum blog). This program gives students a one week intensive program to research, discover and work in the archives and history of Chilliwack. From our presentation, it sounds like it will be a very in demand program in the future.
Thank you to Lena and Stephanie for your time and visit, we appreciate it and we are definitely looking forward to seeing more from the Chilliwack Museum and Archives in the future.
We wrapped up our meeting with a fantastic round of happy bucks and best birthday wishes to Barry and Pete.
