Some mornings you just cannot help but feel in awe of all the amazingness that occurs with our students in schools everyday.

This morning we celebrated the Students of the Month from Vedder Middle and Sardis Secondary.

We celebrated amazing talents and dedication in athletics, academics and art. We heard about their accomplishments in outdoor education, drafting, volunteer, leadership and agricultural.

Three of our celebrated students are exchange students from Italiy, Austria and Spain.
I also learned after our meeting one of our Sardis Secondary students has been accepted for exchange to France for next academic year!

A great morning by all!

Our guest speaker today was Ivana Ferris from the Chilliwack Branch of the BCSPCA. Ivana shared stories and exciting programs that the SPCA offers for kids to have opportunities to work with animals. Also the school work programs they offer for 'Be the Change' days, already hosting Mount Slesse and GW Graham. We also learned about the community spaces the SPCA is making available including the tent we are helping to purchase with our donation and with the creation of their new multipurpose room.
Ivana also recommended their Wine for Whiskers fundraiser (Click link for more information). She also reminded us that September 10 is Paws for a Cause.
We are very fortunate to have such dedicated individuals dedicated to education and animals.

Thank you for all you do!
See you next week,

Welcome Back!

Can you believe we are mid-May already!?!

This morning we had Dean Mercer speak to us from the Salvation Army Youth Ministries, specifically he was there to give us an update on Camp Sunrise.
Camp Sunrise gives under privileged children a chance to attend camp in Gibsons, BC. He had an awesome powerpoint that gave some of the specifics about why this camp is so critical in some childrens' lives. Their goal, to be able to make camp possible for the kids is to fundraise $12,000.
Dean also let us know that Salvation Army is hosting a fundraising afternoon at the Lynnwood on June 10.
Can we get 4 or 5 of us together to attend?
At the end of it all, we were able to present Dean with a cheque, in which I think we are able to send 5 or 6 kids to camp this summer!

Good Morning!

What a treat today!
In the four years I have been a member, I have never had the opportunity to hear a member of the BC Ambulance Service speak...
This morning, we had Tony Fryer speak to us not as a member of Chilliwack Search and Rescue, but as an Advance Life Support Paramedic.
Interesting fact that Tony shared- it was our own Brian C that helped him to the path to become a Paramedic.
We also heard how closely Paramedics work with the Fire Department,  Police, Doctors and Hospitals.
We heard how Chilliwack had over 20,000 calls last year with 6-8 Paramedics on each shift. Our ground ambulances travel more then 2 million kms a year. We heard about the challenge that our 'local' commute times cause.
When we got to ask questions, we learned that one day Tony got to be Superman to a little boy, and helped him cope with the situation at hand.
So we met a true Superman today!

Thank you Tony for all you do for our community!
Even with all the craziness Chilliwack deals with we are so lucky to have our first responders and other groups that are all about making Chilliwack a better place. Thank you to all of you!
See you next week,
Michelle
