"A friend never gets in your way unless you happen to be going down." ~Unknown
This morning we welcomed back Eleanor Meldrum from the Dry Grad committee. Did you know that Dry Grad Chilliwack is celebrating its 27th annual occurance this year?
This is such a wonderful opportunity for our local grads to have a safe fun environment to celebrate their high school graduation.
Eleanor updated us that this past year we saw an 82% participation rate from our local grads. We also learned that Dry Grad is a massive partnership with the City, the RCMP, the three high schools and dozens of volunteers. Their urgent need is to replace some of their casino tables and they are fundraising constantly to keep the event fresh and fun!
It runs on June 28th, 2018, maybe this coming year we can volunteer for a shift?
We were thrilled to be able to present the Dry Grad committee with a cheque for $300 towards this event!
Keep up all the amazing work!

Other club communications included:
  • Emergency Centre at CSSS
    • Ken gave a brief overview of the comings and goings. Things are going well from our perspective.
  • Sheila gave a run down of her days up in Kamloops at the Fire Emergency Centre there.
  • Dennis gave us a Lt.Gov. update, he is becoming increasingly busy
  • August 19 is our annual Pig Roast at Gwynne Vaughan Park at 2pm
  • We also shared mail and updates from the PNW Foundation, the BCSPCA and Chilliwack Community Services
Happy Bucks all around!
See you next week, for the good of Kiwanis,

Michelle

Good Morning!
This morning we welcomed back Katherine and her husband from the 1st Vedder Scouts!
It has been a year since we last saw her and we were excited to get an update on how the Scout movement is going in Chilliwack and Sardis!
Katherine updated us about the merger between the Chilliwack and Vedder Scouts (very logical the way she explained it) to help keep processes under control. We also heard about the memories and adventures the patrol that attended Scout Jamboree in Nova Scotia! Memories to last a lifetime! She also shared some amazing and fun stories from the Christmas winter camp in Manning and the wettest canoe camp ever to the Bowron Lakes.
Their current needs are around camping equipment and supplies so that everyone can participate, safely and comfortably. Scouts Canada is also starting a new trainign program for leaders, so they are excited to get that under control.
We are honoured to present Katherine and the 1st Vedder Scouts with a check for $750 dollars to help buy 2 new camp equipment sets for years to come!
In other club updates:
  • Soup Kitchen went last week, about 120 clients
  • Show and Shine was a stellar success! Thank you to the trailer committee for another awesome and successful event!
  • Thank you also to all our members who are part of Chilliwack Emergency Services and are volunteering at Chilliwack Senior as WildFire Evacuees report to Chilliwack.
  • Our Canada Day committee were presented beautiful glasses for all their coordinating and organizing efforts.
We wrapped it all up with Happy Bucks and for the Good of Kiwanis!
See you soon,
Michelle

Huskers

The first to apologize is the bravest.
The first to forgive is the strongest.
The first to forget is the happiest.

This morning we welcomed back the Chilliwack Huskers football program. Jack, Moe and Bob all came by to pay us a visit.
It was delightful to hear the particulars of the Huskers football organization. It really resonated with all of us, their message about the importance of community and education. These gentleman and the whole Huskers organization are clearly dedicated to Chilliwack, the sport of football and to developing well- balanced individuals.
We have been supporting the Huskers football program for a few years now and it is exciting- their optimism to compete and being active members in the City of Chilliwack.
As for our club updates:
  • A brief overview of the Canada Day awesome was provided.
  • A reminder the Board Meeting at the Chilliwack Public Library at 7pm tonight.
  • Peter B. shared an assortment of scholarship thank you letters.
  • A soup kitchen update was given
  • And a very Happy 4th of July to everyone!
Wrap it all up with Happy Bucks, and we will see you in 2 weeks. President Michelle will be away next week.

Yours in Service,
Michelle
