Welcome to our new digs!

After weeks of discussions and research...

The Sardis Kiwanis Club is excited to announce we have changed locations for breakfast. We are now meeting every Tuesday morning at 7am at the IHOP on 45466 Yale Road.
Today we were very fortunate to welcome Barb from the Chilliwack Youth Health Centre (CYHC) and members of the executive from the Sardis Secondary Key Club.
The CYHC's vision is to: To create a space that provides integrated health and wellness services to youth and young adults (ages 12-26) on a drop in basis in a safe and supportive environment. They offer a diverse number of programs to support the full range of youth health issues. These include but are not limited to life planning, mental health awareness, counseling, substance abuse and many other concerns youth may have in the lives. Barb outlined how our previous support has allowed them to offer more times, more sessions and more awareness so the youth of Chilliwack have a safe place to go. To check out a full outline of their programs and offerings check out there website here (http://chilliwackyhc.com/). We were also invited to their annual fundraising gala on April 18 at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre. Please contact their office if you are interested in attending.

Our second visitors of the morning were a stellar group of Sardis Secondary students, fresh in with some updates from their fundraising efforts on the weekend, and an overall update about their club.

The club at Sardis are working on school culture events, organizing a team for the Inside Ride at WJ Mouat and organizing a thank you party for May. We also learned their fundraiser of bagging groceries on Saturday earned more than $2400 for KCCP and their programs. An amazing accomplishment! Check out our Facebook page for a few photos from the day.

It's pretty easy to get excited about the future when we see what our youth of today are accomplishing! Thank you to our Key Clubs for continuing all the amazing work of the Kiwanis family.
Other club updates from today include:
  • Thank you to the House committee for all their work on changing locations.

Thank you for all you do!
Yours in Service,
Michelle

How Did This Happen?
Picture
Oh wait, we're awesome!
This morning was another full house! Al brought a guest, and Chilliwack joined us for an Inter-Club, aka 'Social Networking', that of course meant a morning of laughter and fun!
Rod, President of Chilliwack, presented stats and a very thorough update on our Saturday Manna Soup Kitchen we host at the Chilliwack United Church. To date the Soup Kitchen have served 1620 clients this year, that is up from 1430 last year. We have 1170 volunteer hours invested and through generous donations and super savy shopping cost have been decreased to $2.33 a client. Rod outlined some areas for improvement too, hopefully we can put our heads together and problem solve together. That being said, we look forward to continuing the partnership with the Chilliwack club in making sure our Saturday Soup Kitchen continues to be a source of comfort and stability for all our clients.

As for our regular communications:
  1. Super Reader: No surprise, still busy, 1969 kids celebrated to date, Arley is fully expecting to hit over 2000 this year.
  2. Courtney is back from Mexico, even survived the bus ride.
  3. Thank you for the boxes of soap and other wash stuff for our drive to make wash bags for Anne Davis Transition House. Keep them coming, we will soon make packages up for delivery.
  4. Nominations for elections can now be made to Ernie, please consider being a member of the Board to make sure our club keeps running smoothly.
  5. Reminder the Walk and Knock is on May 3, sign up coming next week.
  6. Also on May 3 is McHappy Day, talk to Arley if you can help.
  7. Inside Ride, in Abbotsford is May 4, let Dennis know if you can ride for the cause.
  8. GWG Key Club has they Bottle Drive! If you can help them out, please do.
  9. Sardis Sec. Key Club held elections, 21 individuals going for positions! It is exciting to see the youth movement be so involved.
We wrapped up with Happy Bucks and some Happy Birthday shout outs and celebrations to Brian Cleaver and Al Price! While Happy Anniversary wishes go to the Kalaus this week!

That's all for now, for the good of Kiwanis,

Michelle

Natalia delivered a bagful of Komfort Dolls.
  • Thank you Natalia!
