Program:
One of the Kiwanis madates is YCPO, which stands for 'Young Children Priority One', we had the privilege of welcoming Mary Ives from a branch of CYC, and Effective Parenting. She came with a celebration of 20 years of support and partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Sardis and to talk to us about their programs here in Chilliwack. One program that she showcased was the Circle of Security. Circle of Security is relationship based parenting program developed by clinical professionals over a period of 20 years. It provides parents with a roadmap to understanding their children’s needs as well as a guide on how to get there. It is practical, understandable and portioned out in bite-size chunks. The method minimizes the shame and blame cycle and teaches parents reflective functioning. Building on strengths without ignoring the struggles. Circle of Security® trained  facilitators are  leading this series.

The 8 week program will take place 9:00am – 11:00am at Sardis Family Place. Childcare is provided.
Her presentation was followed by some great questions! We are very fortunate to have such a service here in Chilliwack.

I swear it is getting darker and darker in the mornings, but it is sure a treat to share them with our crew.
Today was an internal meeting with Courtney taking the reigns on my plan of introducing Social Media again. With the holiday season around the corner, and so much that we do occuring weekly, we definitely want to share our message more with our community.
Courtney gave an overview of the three big platforms we all tend to hear about the most: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Here is a link to a presentation I did a few years ago to the School District:  click on : Facebook to watch
Also here is a presentation I did on Twitter for a course on Twitter (click to watch)
To navigate through both presentations just use the left and right arrows.
We heard great feedback and we are looking at expanding our knowledge on a few more occasions to our members.

Operation Red Nose is in full swing and don't forget to drop off your internal applications to Ken. Any friends of family will need to get their applications form the Airport Road RCMP detachment. We have a parking duty opportunity on Saturday night, so we will see some of you in your best rain gear. Board Meeting is tonight at 7pm! I am looking forward to exploring our new digs.
Till next week,

Michelle

What a wonderful Tuesday Morning!
I know it's a busy time of year coming up for us, but it's also an exciting time of year because it is when we see our biggest impact on our community! Remember, no matter what if it's 2 hours or 30 hours of your time you give, it all helps! In everyway!
We got updates on Operation Red Nose,  which is quickly approaching. Watch for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram updates to remind the community we are back at it very soon! Also, volunteer applications are now available for community members at the Airport detachment, so remind your friends. We heard about 'Chilliwack Healthy Communities' who is the organization working on the homeless situation here in Chilliwack. Barry B. brought the delicious chocolate covered almond fund-raiser to help support Key Clubers to attend conference- so by all means, Enjoy!
For program today we had the lovely, and funny RCMP Superindent Deanne Burley visit us. She is a wealth of knowledge and insight into crime, and prevention here in our own backyards. She provided solid case studies and incidences we could all learn from and was a great addition to our Tuesday meeting! I hope we have her visit again, for all the right reasons.
We wrapped it all up with some questions and stories- and we are all off, ready to take on another week!

See you soon!
Michelle

As Kiwanians we are in the business of change- one child and one community at a time.
Week 2 as President, and this is my first official weekly recap- Since I missed last week so eloquently!
A reminder our new shirts are in, and they need to be paid for. Soup kitchen on the 8th of October was our annual Thanksgiving feast and we served 123 clients. Great work team! To our delight we learned that ORN applications for our members will be coming shortly, and there is a request for assistance from Dennis and Cec.
We also launched our new Instagram account on Tuesdaymorning to celebrate the International Day of the Girl, we will be aiming to share photos of what we do daily!
This week we had Restorative Justice visit. This is a program that has been mentioned a few times by other guest speakers, so it's nice to have it all come full circle. Restorative Justice has been established in Chilliwack since 1998, and they aim to "Repair the harm. Rebuild the relationship. Restore the community." They specialize in first-time offenders and youth, so it's nice to see a showcase of some of their programs.
We wrapped with Happy Bucks and sending Shirley continued strength and wishes as she heals over the next few weeks.
Thank you all for everything you do! See you soon!

Michelle
